MOTH  (2018 - 2021)

EXPLORING THE MOTH SPECIES OF THE GREAT SOUTHERN REGION OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The Vancouver Arts Centre - Albany

Manjimup Regional Art Gallery - Manjimup

The Cannery Arts Centre - Esperance

The Painted Tree Gallery - Northliffe

Kattaning Regional Art Gallery, Katanning

I created almost 80 works for MOTH. All works were based on local moth species, many of which I photographed and ID-ed myself. Others I found in books or online.

Few people notice or appreciate moths, although they are a valuable part of our ecosystems and often startling, unusual and beautiful little creatures. Very little is known about the majority of species. I was grateful to share these creatures with the people who inhabit the same regions.

I was offered the Albany exhibition as part of the City of Albany Acquisitive Prize, as winner of the Great Southern Art Award 2017. I had the opportunity to receieve mentoring with well known artist Paul Moncrieff to develop this solo exhibition, made possible through the ‘Regional Arts Partnership Program’, a Country Arts WA Royalties for Regions investment into arts and culture across WA. This exhibition was initially held in Albany in 2018 and then subsequently toured to other regional art galleries, as listed above.
